The city of Jakarta doesn't only have malls and shopping centres. There are many tourism areas to visit with family and friends. From Ancol to Dunia Fantasi which of course provides its own fun. There is also Taman Mini Indonesia Indah which offers educational tours about every province in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, for nature tourism areas, the city of Jakarta also has many choices. In the northern area of the city of Jakarta or more precisely at the location of Pantai Indah Kapuk 2, there is one nature tourism area that is ready to pamper the tourists who visit that place. Mangrove Ecotourism Centre PIK is one of the amazing nature tourism areas and is also booming among travellers in Jakarta.

Mangrove Ecotourism Centre is part of Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary. The area was protected since the colonial rule of the Dutch Indies on 17 June 1939, covering 15,4 hectares of the land. During the 1960s, the conservation area was expanded to 1,344.62 hectares. Later, because of human pressure and environmental destruction within and around the national park, some of the mangrove forest areas were destroyed.
On 28 February 1988, the area was declared a Nature Reserve (25,4 ha). In November 1998, the status of this area changed to Wildlife Sanctuary or Suaka Margasatwa (25,02 ha). Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary is listed as one of the important bird sanctuaries in Java, protecting bird species such as milky stork and the endemic Sunda coucal. But now, Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary is currently facing issues such as mangrove cutting, water pollution (especially in Angke River), and settlements development at the edge of the area.

The cost required is quite cheap considering its natural beauty at this Mangrove Ecotourism Center. Apart from the mangrove forests, we can also find many protected faunas and vegetation in this nature conservation. Many swamp forests and beach forests also lay along this north coast of Jakarta.

This wildlife sanctuary is home to various species of birds and various other animals that have been hard to find in other areas of Jakarta. Jakarta Green Monster (an environmental care volunteer community) recorded all 91 species of birds, namely 28 species of water birds and 63 species of forest birds, living in this region. About 17 species of them are protected bird species.
Some of the types are:

According to this, there are about 30 species of plants and 11 of them are tree species in the mangrove forest. The mangrove trees include:
Several types of mangrove plants can also be found in this area such as ketapan (Terminalia catappa) and nipah (Nypa fruticans). In addition to the above types, there are also several types of trees planted for reforestation. Some of them are:

Besides the nature tourism provided, there are many activities that can be good choices to do with families and friends. The available activities are bird watching and observation, camping, outbound, water sports, boat rides, and so on. If you want to spend the night in some cozy places, there are also some villas and homestays that provide you with great hospitality.
This nature tourism site can be an excellent choice to have a vacation with your loved ones. Besides the cool weather that you can't always get in the city, you can also bring your families and friends to learn more about faunas and plants. A perfect getaway in a busy metropolitan area.
